iPadOS 26.6 Public Beta 1 Now Available for iPad Users

Apple has released the first public beta of iPadOS 26.6 for eligible iPads. The update arrives just days after the developer beta rollout and gives public beta testers early access to Apple’s next upcoming iPad software build before the stable release later this year.

So far, iPadOS 26.6 does not appear to bring major new features. Instead, Apple seems focused on small improvements, bug fixes, and security-related changes as attention shifts toward WWDC 2026 and the upcoming reveal of iPadOS 27.

How to update to iPadOS 26.6 public beta in short steps

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap Software Update
  4. Choose Beta Updates
  5. Select iPadOS 26 Public Beta
  6. Go back and download the update

Your iPad must be enrolled in Apple’s public beta program to receive the update.

All the changes

The first public beta appears to include the same changes introduced in the developer beta earlier this week. One of the notable changes is a new alert tied to blocked contacts limits. Apple is also reportedly testing a new anti-theft feature internally, although details are still limited at this stage.

Apart from that, the update mainly focuses on stability improvements, performance refinements, and security fixes. Apple is not expected to add many major features in iPadOS 26.6 because development is now moving toward the next generation software updates expected to be announced in June.

This release is also arriving slightly earlier compared to Apple’s previous beta schedule. Last year’s equivalent x.6 beta cycle started later after the first major beta rollout.

Apple is expected to continue testing iPadOS 26.6 over the next few weeks before the final public release.
