Apple Releases Java Security Updates for Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5

by , 7:40 AM EDT, September 25th, 2008

Apple released Java for Mac OS X 10.4 Release 7 and Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2 Wednesday evening. The updates address several security-related issues in Java and also offer overall improved Java compatibility.

Both updates address issues where visiting maliciously crafted Web sites could lead to arbitrary code execution, and issues where certain Java applets could gain elevated privileges. Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2 also added the ability to use cryptographic keys larger than 128 bits with the Java Cryptography Extension.

Mac OS X 10.4 Release 7 and Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 2 are free updates and are available via the Software Update application, or as downloadable installers from the Apple Support Web site.
