Leaked Apple Docs Confirm New MacBook Models
by , 10:55 AM EDT, October 13th, 2008
Not that anyone has been doubting Apple will announce new MacBook and MacBook Pro models during its special media event on October 14, but now it appears that Apple has unintentionally confirmed that's exactly what will happen thanks to a leaked repair document. The company posted then pulled a document from its Web site over the weekend that references the "MacBook/MacBook Pro (Late 2008)," according to MacRumors.
The PDF document detailed the AirPort card installation process, but showed little else about the alleged new laptops.
Apple invited media representatives last week to a special media event at its Cupertino campus on Tuesday, October 14. The invitation showed a laptop lid with a glowing Apple logo and the text "The spotlight turns to notebooks."
Apple has not confirmed that is introducing updates for its MacBook and MacBook Pro product lines and has a policy of not commenting on rumor and speculation.
The Mac Observer will be covering Apple's media event live, so be sure to check in Tuesday morning for the latest news about Apple's announcements.

Mon Oct 13, 2008 12:48 pm Subject: Rumors of the demise of FireWire 400 can't be true!
Apple Insider reports that leaked photos of the new MacBook Pro casing reveals the demise of FireWire 400. I hope this is untrue! What are creative professionals to do with their FireWire 400 drives, burners, devices if the new MacBook Pro only comes with FireWire 800? I have two FireWire 400 external hard drives, a FireWire DVD Burner, and use FireWire 400 for video capture from my Mini-DV recorder. I've been waiting for the new MacBook Pros to come out, but if they lack FireWire 400 I'll have to rethink the purchase! I can't believe Apple would do this?!! I hope reports are wrong. If not, it is another black eye for Apple, at least as far as I'm concerned!

It is my understanding that it is the Macbook that shows no FW400. And you could always use a FW800 to FW400 cable.
And it is all speculation at this point. Nothing official has come out.
True, nothing official has come out. Best to wait to see what surprises Apple may have in store. While reports I read referred to the MacBook Pro, it is just speculation. Still, I'm not fond of having to use a FW800 to FW400 cable. But we do what we must.
Thank you for being a voice of calm and reason.
