Just a Thought - Thank-Ya!
by - November 24th, 2004
Brothas and Sistahs, we are gathud heeah tahday, around this feast of plenty, to partake in tha bounty laid before us. But before we do I'd like ta offa a few words of thanks, especially impo'tant during this heeah Thanksgiving season.
I know that each and ev'ry one of us has somethin' ta be thankful for. I know this, Brothas and Sistahs, beCaus-ah you would not be sittin there reading this if you did not have somethin ta read it on.
Can I git an Aaaaaaaaaa-Men?
And that soooomethin, be it Mac or PC, would not be sittin in front of you if you did not have the means to put it there.
Can I get a Ha-Lah-Loooooooo-YA!
So ya got Somethin ta be thankful fo', I knows ya do. I don't hafta to see it, cuz I can feel it in my bones-ah! Ya don't hafta say it cuz it is spoken in the very A-ya you breathe! Ya don't EEE-vin hafta acknowledge it cuz it is they-ya before ya, whether you acknowledge it or NOT-tah!
Can I git a witness?
Aaaa-men!
Brothas and Sistahs, I've got a lot ta be thankful fo, I don't hafta search hard to find a reason ta give thanks, mah reasons sit befo' me, my reasons are clipped to mah belt and is plugged into mah ears, mah reasons sit 10 miles from my humble home, in the Mall at Millenia, or on the Internet: Praise Al Gore!
Mah friends, I'm thankful for the iMac. Yes I am! I'm thankful for all of that glorious technology artfully crammed into a two inch thick body! I'm thankful for the POW-WAH of the G5, and GLO-RAY of a 20 inch widescreen display! Can ya FEEEEEEEEL tha POW-WAH AND THA GLO-RAY???
Can I git an AAAAaaaaaaaaa-MEN?
I'm thankful for the G4 iBook! Ha-Lay-Lou-Ya! Ya don't hafta dig too deep into your pockets to own one, and owning one is heavenly; YES, I say HEA-VEN-LY!
I'm thankful for Apple's Special Deals Web site, because, Brothas and Sistahs, I'm a po' man, I say I'm a PO' MAN, but I'm RICH in love for technology. Yes I am, and I ain't aff-RAID tah say it! Apple's Special Deals makes it possible for a po' me like me tah buy the technology I lust for. Cuz when I was DEEEEEEEEP in despair cuz my POCKETS were bare, I could ALWAYS go there, and buy cheap hardware!
Can you say 'Refurb'? AAAAAaaaaaa-MEN! Ha-Lay-Lou-Ya!
I'm thankful for the iPod, for OS X, for GarageBand, and the iTunes Music Store; yes I am! Cuz it is the iPod that keeps me hummin', and its GarageBand that keeps me strummin'! AAAAAAaaaaaa-MEN!
It's OS X that stays up soooooooo long, and iTMS where I buy ALLLLLLLLL my songs! Ha-LAY-LOOOOOOOOOOU-YA!!!
And Yay, though I walk through the valley of crapware, I shall fear NO virus! I shall fear NO worm. For OS X is my protector, and a mighty protector it is! Can I git a witness?
Oh Yes, I'm thankful for all those things; yes I'm am. But most of all, Brothas and Sistahs, I'm thankful for Apple stock. It has tripled in value since this time last year, and is projected to double AGAIN! Praise Jobs and the crew at Apple!
Yes-ah, I've got a lot tah be thankful for, my friends, a lot tah be thankful for. And now, I await Friday, so that I can go and get more stuff to be thankful for.
Can I git an AAAAAaaaa-Men!
So, my friends, Brothas and Sistahs, if ya feel thankful, if you feel-ah the Pow-wah of your Pow-wah Mac, if your heart LEAPS at the OS X boot-chime, I want ya tah let me know about it. I want you tah tell me what makes ya thankful, and tell the WORLD-ah what makes ya thankful! Don't hold it back my friends; let the thanks pour forth!
Can I git a Ha-lay-lou-yay, and an AAAaaa-Men!

Actually, I was targeting Black Southern Baptist ministers who use Macs to write their sermons.
It's a very small group, and I figured if there's anyone who can take a joke, it must be them.
I had originally targeted mulatto Methodists who live in the Mid-Atlantic states, and Jehova's Witnesses of any racial decent who live in Fiji, but I figured those folk already have it tough, who am I to poke fun at them?
Jeez, get a grip!

Vern,
What a great piece of literacy. We should all lighten up and have a little fun in life. Wish I could write with half the cleverness you did in this piece. I didn't take this to be a put down to anyone in particular. It really put a smile on my face and I had to read it a couple of times out of pure joy. Keep up the good work and thanks for giving me a good start to the Thanksgiving holiday.
We Mac users really do have lots to be thankful for, in more ways than one.
Apparently some of our guests haven't watched a holy roller channel. The basic reason it's funny is that it's true. It took me a couple of seconds to get into it, but once you get the rhythm down, it flowed perfectly, and it reads just like a TV preacher would sound. Calling this article a racist stereotype is invalid when the evidence is no farther away than television.
And for our guest who doesn't live in the U.S.: You've missed a treat. I don't agree with much these guys say, but they're entertaining, to say the least.

Well, I wouldn't say it's literature, but I appreciate the thought.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Heck, I don't believe in anything. Well not in anything divine. What are you going to wish me? I think I'd like to be wished everything happy possible and, of course, also receive loads of presents on all those occasions. And if there are no religious happies to wish me, then why not wish me a Happy Unbirthday (unless it happens to be my birthday of course, when you can wish me a Happy Birthday instead).
Fri Nov 26, 2004 6:55 pm Subject: RE: Davidneale
You don't have to have a religious conviction to appreciate a good wish, no matter what the background of the wish. Would you be offended if a Jewish friend wished you a Happy Hanukah? Would you deck a Black friend for wishing you a Happy Kwanza? Would you sneer at your Chinese friend who bade you a Happy Chinese New Year?
I would hope not, because all your friend were trying to do is offer a a bit of goodness, doesn't matter whether you share thier beliefs or not.
So, if any of you out there what to wish me anything positive, regardless of religious orientation, go for it. I'll take it and be glad, and offer my wish for a happy life in return.
Of course, if you want to wish me a million bucks, I'll take that too.
Just my opinion

Tue Nov 30, 2004 4:08 pm Subject: Some generalizations on racism the American way
Rant mode fully engaged, be warned!
I've been thinking about American notions of racism quite a lot lately... I have the impression across the great divide everybody wants to be treated with respect to his religion, background, culture and/or colour (oh and choice of president lately).
Which imo is very typically ass-backwards, like war for peace, polluting for clean air, Britney for chastity... I thought the whole idea was to try and
1) treat everybody the same, and
2) be extremely tolerant, since everybody has different ways of treating everybody the same...
in order to enjoy the huge variety and sameness we find in each other?
What's all this "don't laugh cause [I am/someone else is] [black/white/latino/jewish/polish/christian/muslim/french/whatever] "touchyfeelyness?
Really, I don't know if you realize it, but seen from the outside you all are very American and can be recognized as such from miles and miles away. Whether for good or for bad, despite the many differences you might find, despite the need to be "somethingpoliticallycorrect-American" instead of just American, for "us" you're "all the same".
Isn't it refreshing to be the subject of unjust generalization, no matter who you are? Doesn't that unite you?

Well, all I can say to that is, "Penblwydd Hapus", David. I've got one chance in 365 of being right.
Oh, BTW, shame about the rygbi last week - your boys played well.
As for zpok's comments, Aaaa-men, brother. Or sister. Why can't everyone just get on together? Being overly racist, or overly careful of offence, is itself most offensive. Basil Fotherington-Thomas, he say, "Hello sky, hello flowers, hello sun…", and even though he's a wet and a weed, I think he's right.
(If the previous sentence seems rather oblique, just ignore it.)

Diolch yn fawr i chi! I'll keep it until next year. Yeah, rygbi, now that is something I DO believe in! Completely off topic, but the Welsh boys haven't done too badly in their last few games, have they -- even giving your lot a run for their money and a fright. Roll on England (I can but hope!)
