Kineticon 1.6.1 ($15 Shareware)
Kinetic Creations, Inc.

The Mac is a natural when it comes to creating and viewing graphics and animation. But why should the fun stop if you're no longer using the applications that create and view these gems? If only you could bring a bit of this excitement to the Finder, which normally just sits there awaiting your commands…

Kineticon will bring your Desktop alive with animated icons. After installing the Kineticon package, you will need to restart your system. Once you get to the Desktop, you should see the Kineticon folder. If not, find the folder, titled Kineticon 1.6.1, and open it. You will instantly be shown the benefits of this package. The Kineticon Editor icon will be animated!

Resist the urge to click on this icon immediately, and check out some of the (very well written) documentation. Once you've done this, you'll know that you need to launch the Kineticon Editor application to add or remove animations. In most cases, you'll need to past the new icon over an existing icon. Once you do this and quit the Kineticon Editor, the selected icon(s) will animate.

A good number of kines (the name for Kineticon modules) are included with the package, but you will soon want to check out other options. There are both commercial KinePaks available, as well as kines created by enthusiasts. If you are in a development mood, you should check out the Kineticon SDK (Software Development Kit) so you can make your animations available to others.

Move beyond the boring, static desktop of Mac OS, and let Kineticon add a little excitement.
