DV Dailies - DV.com Reviews Apple's Motion 1.0

by , 1:00 PM EST, November 23rd, 2004

DV.com has posted a review of Motion, Apple's professional graphic animation utility. Reviewed by David Phillips, the article examines Apple's latest addition to its filmmaking arsenal. Designed to work in tandem with Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro, the graphics app gets points from Mr. Phillips for being easy to learn, but says that Adobe After Effects users shouldn't throw away their copies of the software just yet. From the article:

The real issue is that although Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro are fairly effective in their respective fields, their motion graphics capabilities are crude, at best. Apple saw it had two applications that needed motion graphics to be complete. But inserting motion graphics tools into Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro would have resulted in cobbled-together apps.

[...]

In the end, Motion is not a replacement for After Effects, and it's not a mini-flame. The maturity and depth of these applications offer solutions that really aren't in Motion's near future. However, for people looking for a fast, easy-to-learn motion graphics tool to build quick ads, bumpers, opens, and DVD menus, Motion is it.
