DV Dailies - DV.com Reviews Sony's VX2100

by , 1:00 PM EST, January 26th, 2005

DV.com has posted a review of the recently released VX2100 from Sony. Reviewed by Robert M. Goodman, the article cites such features as improved images via 1/3 inch CCDs and low-light performance as positive qualities, while the lack of professional manual features tops the list of drawbacks.

The VX2100 is a consumer version of the PD170 and is designed as a point and shoot camera, mostly targeted to non-professional videographers.

"The PD170 and the VX2100 are almost identical," wrote Mr. Goodman, "but there are some key differences. One big difference is that the PD170 records in either DV or DVCAM, while the VX2100 records only in DV. Both cameras use the same lens and imager, so the picture quality is virtually identical."

There's more in the full review at DV.com (free subscription required). The Sony VX2100 is available for US$2,999.00.
