What should we expect from Thursday's iPhone special event?
Edited to change topic type to normal.

Writing this is probably going to mean I'm disappointed:
confirmation that the SDK is implemented as a new iPhone target within Xcode
An iPhone emulator for the the new multitouch trackpad Macbooks
what API's are off-limits for developers and what supported
who can develop - where does the innovative one man developer fit?
the official distribution model for applications
formalisation of an official jailbreak (I suspect jailbreak may become a configurable option of your iPhone - no support while you're jailbroken, only Apple-distributed Apps if you aren't). An interesting twist would be if jailbroken iPhones had to be individually registered.
On the enterprise side, no idea, but here's some ideas:
Java
centralised management
some sort of OS X server integration and/or
Blackberry Connect for iPhone
Exchange live sync

I doubt that. It's just not the Apple way.

I'll be interested to see if they release something today; the recent software update seems to have added very little in terms of offical features, perhaps that was priming the pump for some new apps, to be announced today.
We knew the SDK was coming, if all they do today is say OK a beta is now with developers and in June there will be some apps I think the response will be 'so bloody what, show us in June then'.
I'd be very happy to see something actually working, otherwise it'll be something of a non-event.

My guess is that today is going to be BIG BIG BIG! I say that because of the guarded way that Tim Cook spoke of the event the other day. He said something about not saying too much because he didn't want to spoil the surprise element. That is not a precursor for today simply being "here's the Beta - now get on with it". The nice thing about this, is that I suspect that the market hasn't quite grasped the significance of today. Thus goes my line of thinking, when there is bigger news than expected, the pop should be bigger. Looking at yesterday's action, I didn't get the impression that the stock was being bought and held for today. It was just like any other day. Apple will deliver more than expected. That said, in this shi**y environment, we are still lower than we were after Cook's speech. Just my 2c.

Well Macs have always been jail broken. No jailbreak, no native development. If it happens, it won't be called jailbreak of course!

Just finished a podcast by a architect. He used a term I haven't heard that does apply to Apple.
He referred to "technical nutrition" in the sense of invention used for the betterment of man and the planet.
That term yields a thousand analogies and today at the Apple event we will be showered with practical examples of ready to go productivity software.
The eventual benefits are too numerous to imagine. However as far as the stock market goes I fear these examples may be "pearls cast before swine".
I'm pumped, but I'm hedged.

sg: I'd be very interested in later seeing you post a "report card" on how well Apple met these criteria. It is a good list.

If this event is as application-filled as suggested here and other places, this could really (assuming it gets positive media coverage ) pump up the sales of iPhones. I am apprehensively hopeful.
edit: typo

Ones this SDK is out there, and developers start making great apps for the iPhone and Touch, everybody can have a different reason to get a iPhone or a touch.
It will be able to do everything one can dream of from this electronic device..

I think it's pretty much binary: if apple announce they will have secure corporate email for the iPhone and demonstrate it then the market will love it. If they don't the market will hate it.
If they announce great new apps for navigation, games etc, ready to roll out via iTunes the market will love it. If they don't, or they promise and don't demonstrate then it'll be a wait and see.
They could do very well though with a solid presentation of a corporate email solution.
