Mac Gaming News - World of Goo Offers a Sticky Twist on Puzzle Games

by , 3:45 PM EST, November 4th, 2008

2D Boy on Tuesday announced that its physics-based puzzle game World of Goo is now available for Mac OS X. It was released for Windows and Nintendo Wii last month, and a Linux edition is in the works. World of Goo stars millions of goo balls that, in the words of the developer, "are filled with curiosity and the urge to explore -- but they don't know that they are in a game, or that they are extremely delicious to roving Goo predators."

The object of the game is to drag and drop groups of Goo balls to build towers, bridges, and other structures that help the creatures navigate their world and avoid danger. The game even has a story centered around the World of Goo Corporation and its need for the Goo balls to be sucked into a pipe at the end of each level. Cut scenes reveal conspiracies, discoveries, love, and even another dimension. 2D Boy also hosts a leader board that tracks players' abilities to build the tallest towers of Goo.

World of Goo sells for US$20 and requires Mac OS X version 10.4 and a G4 or Intel processor. A demo is available at the 2D Boy web site.
