Mac Gaming News - Penumbra Expansion Requiem Arrives For Mac

by , 2:40 PM EST, November 17th, 2008

Penumbra RequiemFrictional Games on Monday released Requiem, the final game in its Penumbra series of first-person psychological horror games. Billed as a puzzle expansion for Penumbra: Black Plague, Requiem features nine levels fill of physics-based puzzles and extra details about the series' characters.

Penumbra's main character is Philip, who spent the first two games, Overture and Black Plague, trying to learn more about the creepy underworld he found himself in. All three games feature a 3D graphics engine reminiscent of id Software's DOOM 3 in its look and feel. Players can open doors, pull levels, pick up and move or throw objects, and more as they make their way through the environment. The games emphasize stealth and puzzle solving over fighting.

While Philip's story ended with Black Plague, Requiem gives players one more chance to explore Penumbra's world and learn more about it and its inhabitants. The expansion pack sells for US$9.99 and requires Mac OS X version 10.4, a 2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and 2GB of hard drive space. Frictional also sells a three-pack of the Penumbra series for $35.
