WEEK 1 DEADLINE APPROACHES

As most of you should be aware, the deadline for this week's Qualifying Round matches to be played is Sunday, 9pm CDT. All matches must be played by this time. No extensions will be given.

What happens if you haven't played your match by Sunday? You go to the Match List and look for your order there. Beside your match will be a fallback time.

Teams that haven't played their match must be on bungie.net at the fallback time and find a MWC99 official. If both teams are on bungie.net at the fallback time, they play then and there. If only one team shows up, they are given the forfeit. If nobody turns up, the highest-seeded team of the pair is given the forfeit.

So, then, here's what you have to do if you haven't played by Sunday:

  • Find your fallback time on the Match List.
  • Get your team together on bungie.net about fifteen minutes BEFORE this fallback time.
  • Try to find your opponents on bungie.net. They should be there.
  • If you can't find your opponents, and it has reached the time when they're meant to be there, go find a MWC99 official. They will have 'MWC99' in their names; use the Find command.
  • Do not take your whole team to talk to the MWC99 official. They are likely to be in a very busy room.
  • Tell the MWC99 official what's happening. After 10 minutes, if your opponents have not shown up, they will award you the forfeit.

See you on Sunday! And please remember, if things don't go so smoothly, bear with us. It's hard to coordinate eight hundred people in a tournament, and we're doing the best that we can; after all, we're only volunteers.

RULES CLARIFICATIONS

The MWC99 Triumvirate met this evening to talk about some issues that have come up in the week's play so far. We've made some amendments to the rules, and these new points will take effect after this week's games. This will give teams a chance to fix up their rosters in preparation for the stricter team rules.

  • One Player, One Login is one of the Rules of bungie.net and it applies to MWC99 as well. The only person who may play using a given login is the person who was originally signed up using it. For example, if your bungie.net login is banned, you may not play on an ordermate's login instead.
  • We have team rosters for a reason. You may not field a player who is not on your roster. If a team fields a player who is not on their roster, they may be made to forfeit that game.
  • If someone infringes the rules, you should tell them about it. If they refuse to change their behaviour, tell us about it. Don't get into the argument yourself. Vigilante behaviour is not helpful. This means you, Odin.
  • Teams should know the rules. Specifically, at least one person in your order (your captain maybe) should read all of the rules so that they know what's going on. They should then tell their players however much they need to know.
  • If you play on the wrong map or wrong game, no points will be awarded to either team for that game. Get it right, people.
  • If the game settings are noticed to be wrong while you are playing a game, you must restart the game if this is pointed out either during planning time or less than two minutes into the game. However, if the game is well underway, then you shouldn't replay it just because there was a small time error.

SHOCK MYRKRIDIAN TREACHERY

Over the past few weeks, our staff writers have been working overtime chronicling the events leading up to the Opening Ceremonies of the Myth World Cup here in Muirthemne. We've seen some surprising things, but nothing prepared us for today's events.

Check the Story section for further details. And remember, story updates are regularly posted every one to two days, so keep checking back there!

RESULTS BEGIN TO TRICKLE IN

Teams are starting to play their games, and results have begun to trickle into our mailboxes here. We will work hard to get match results up as soon as possible; reviews will follow later, depending on two things: how long it takes us to get match reviewers organised, and how busy they are.

Now you can start to see our statistics-tracking system paying off. Go on, cruise on over to a team that has played (for example, Destruction Eternal) and check out their players' records so far. We plan on awarding medals to those players who have the best records over the qualifying round.

MWC99 MAPS MOVED

A lot of people have been hitting our server to get the official maps for MWC99! While this is a good thing, our sponsors didn't consider this when they agreed to host the website, and the bandwidth required is causing them problems.

UPDATE (06/05): We have changed the map download links to point to The Mill, a large map hosting site. After all, we're a tournament site, we're not in the business of distributing plugins.

MYTH WORLD CUP '99 BEGINS

IT HAS BEGUN.

The Myth World Cup '99 starts today, with the ninety-six teams divided into sixteen pools for the Qualifying Round. All teams' contact people and alternate contacts will be emailed information about their matchups for this week; every team has one match which must be scheduled and played by Sunday 6 June, 9pm CDT.

Teams may check out their opponents by looking at their team pages or directly at their pool's pages. The round-robin Qualifying Round will last for three weeks, counting this one.

Note that as of now, all teams' rosters are locked. Teams may submit changes to the Tournament Manager, but they will not be implemented until the week's match deadline is past. Crucial changes such as mistaken logins may be implemented immediately at the discretion of the Tournament Manager.

For further instructions on how MWC99 works, please consult the Rules.

Good luck, and remember... play hard, play fair, and have fun!

The 83 orders already up on the team roster are guaranteed a place in the tournament. Tonight we will go over all of the other entries and select another thirteen orders to fill out the Qualifying Round. Orders will be selected based on how complete their registration is, and when they first expressed interest in entering MWC99.

Expect Qualifying Round brackets and matchups to be posted early tomorrow morning.
