Reviewed by Jonny Rocket: Who understands the thoughts of warriors before they enter the battle? Both sides were full of optimism, determination and uncertainty as they began the contest. Who would represent the Empire? MMC displayed tactical awareness, but sloppy execution as they marched their offensive units to meet their foe at the central point. SdMS had seized the hill's height advantage, and drew first blood - a Styg and two archers in quick succession. Massed fire arrows turned the hill into a hill of flame as a small detachment of warriors carrying their nation's pride countercharged, demanding blood for blood in the ancient exchange of battle. They shook their enemies archers a little, seizing the life from one, but were cut down by superior force as the charge behind them faltered in the face of a hail of arrows and a mass charge by the main body of dM's forces. Surely the enemy arrows were touched by God - or the Devil! Again and yet again they flew, cutting down the men of MMC, the infantry charge was deep into MMC formations now, their archers were routed, and could not easily reply, the fates of men hung in the balance as they made their last stands on these flaming hills. Elmo sent his band of warriors at the enemy, slipping past the main invasive force they launched themselves at the devil-driven archers and diabolical dwarves, swords slapped against leather, punctuated by the lethal "clack" of longbows, causing heavy damage in this desparate attempt. Fire was thrown, and one dM dorf fell, two more moved behind his corpse, attempting vengeance, but the flame licked the bombs of the fallen one, and in a moment their lives were also ended. But alas, it was too late. Brave as Elmos warriors showed themselves to be, they were cut down, ancestral battle-cries upon their lips. MMC launched a flank attack, using a large force of archers, they were unprotected, however and despite making good account of themselves, they fell before the anger of the vengeful Stygian Knights of the dM. SdMS achieved mass superiority inside the first few minutes of the game after the mass annihalation of MMC's forces. The end was no longer in any real doubt. The last of MMC's melee troops fell to a charge by fourteen wounded warriors, so demoralised were the scattered remnants of the MMC army they inficted no casualties. Inevitably scouts were sent to the flags and the remaining Ghol scouts of MMC were slowly boxed in. Elmo : "It's not over..." But it was; faced by superior forces the ghols had no choice but to charge suicidally or race for it, hoping to stay one flag ahead. They elected the latter, but were outnumbered, outflanked, outran and outfought. Eventually in retreat they could not hide the shame they felt for letting their country down as an outright flag victory was won by dM's fast-moving, diabolically-gifted forces. Meanwhile on Hells Hill fanned by the remaining flames lay the fallen. A hundred corpses and a hundred broken dreams. The soul of MMC was broken that night, and in their villages the folk of their land mourned the passing of their sons and daughters, the death of their champions.
