With the addition of two more players, The Long Patrol’s chances for success increase greatly in this game. Unit selection is more traditional than last game, both teams choose the max warrior/stygian combo and a complement of thrall. Hehehe takes a bunch of soulless, a pair each of dwarves and ghols, while tLP goes for max ghols at the expense of soulless and thrall.

Hehehe opens with the comfortable two-army flank strategy, while tLP mixes it up a little by sending the ghols to the south flank and the stygians/warriors to the north. Hehehe has a big advantage over the tLP ghols in the south, but neglects to guard their southern flag (!) allowing the superior speed of the tLP force to get the tag before they can close in to even get their fourth. Things are looking good for tLP with the first southern tag and a superior melee force in the north, when they inexplicably split the northern melee force in two and give Hehehe their fifth flag and the lead. This is the turning point in the match, and the clear explanation for tLP’s failure: they simply don’t seem to have a coherent plan.

After the fifth flag tag, Hehehe retreats all of their units to their home, content to hole up and outlast tLP for a five-point victory. Realizing that they must attack to win, tLP sends their warriors, stygians and a few surviving soulless and ghols to the attack. As tLP surrounds Hehehe’s home flag, TOX of Hehehe remarks, ”guys if we lose we all suck”. It would have been amusing to tease Hehehe if they did lose, but tLP just wasn’t up for it. They attacked the enemy from two directions in a poorly coordinated assault that featured an entire column of stygians charging two well-prepared dwarves. The conclusion was obvious, with Hehehe holding on for an unsatisfying but effective victory.

hehehe: 5 flags + win, 25 points.
The Long Patrol: 5 flags, 20 points.
