GAMES FOR EACH ROUND

THE CRUCIBLE

For some MWC99 games, each team will split up into 2 or 3 'squads', who will work together to accomplish the goals of the match. These games will be played on maps with 4 or 6 starting locations, and Alliances will be enabled (The MWC99 staff strongly encourage squads to use the Alliance feature).

Note that when a squad is eliminated, its members can then see all units on the map and comment using yelled messages to help their allied team. This practice is allowed and encouraged in the MWC99 tournament.

In games with 2 or more allied squads it is possible to contest a flag or ball with two allied units indefinitely. It is not permitted to use this procedure to artificially extend sudden death. While incidental violations that do not affect the game outcome will be overlooked, intentional abuse will be penalized at the discretion of the Triumvirate. Such penalties may range from disallowing any gains by the offending team due to the transgression up to forfeiture of the game.

FLAG RALLY (GIMBLE IN THE WABE)

MWC99 Flag Rally games on the Gimble In The Wabe map have six flags, with three squads per team and will be scored as follows:

  • Each team receives 1 point for every flag captured by a squad at the end of the game. Thus multiple points may be scored off the same flag if it is captured by multiple squads.
  • The team whose squad finishes in first place according to the postgame stats receives 5 bonus points.
  • The team whose squad finishes in second place according to the postgame stats receives 3 bonus points.
  • The team whose squad finishes in third place according to the postgame stats receives 1 bonus point.
  • The team that scores more points is declared the winner. If both teams score the same number of points, the game is a tie.

The maximum score possible in Gimble Flag Rally is 26.

TERRITORIES AND CAPTURES (VENICE)

MWC99 Territories and Captures games on the Venice map have nine flags/balls, with two squads per team and will be scored as follows:

  • Each team receives 2 points for every flag/ball controlled at the end of the game.
  • The team whose squad finishes in first place according to the postgame stats receives 3 bonus points.
  • The team whose squad finishes in second place according to the postgame stats receives 1 bonus point.
  • The team that scores more points is declared the winner. If both teams score the same number of points, the game is a tie.

The maximum score possible in Venice Territories and Captures is 22.

TERRITORIES AND CAPTURES (BADLANDS)

MWC99 Territories and Captures games on the Badlands and Untamed Lands maps have 13 flags/balls, with two squads per team and will be scored as follows:

  • Each team receives 1 point for every flag/ball controlled at the end of the game.

The maximum score possible in Badlands or Untamed Lands Territories and Captures is 21.

FLAG RALLY (8)

MWC99 Flag Rally games on the Venice, Badlands and Untamed Lands maps have 8 flags, with two squads per team and will be scored as follows:

  • Each squad receives 1 point for every flag tagged by the end of the game. Note that a team has two squads, so they can receive up to 16 points from tagging flags. (However, this is tough to coordinate! Kudos to anyone who manages it.)

The maximum score possible in Venice, Badlands, or Untamed Lands Flag Rally is 24.

ASSASSIN

MWC99 Assassin games on the Venice, Badlands and Untamed Lands maps have two squads per team and will be scored as follows:

  • Each team receives one bonus award from the following list for each enemy squad's target (the largest award for which the team qualifies). Each team receives one award which is based on the combined performance of their two squads; the squads are not given separate awards.
  • 0 points if the target takes no damage during the game.
  • 2 points if the target takes any damage (from any source) during the game.
  • 5 points if the target's health is reduced to red health at any time during the game (even if subsequently healed)
  • 10 points if the target is killed during the game.

The maximum score possible in Venice, Badlands, or Untamed Lands Assassin is 20.

If both teams from one alliance are eliminated, the Assassin game is considered to end at that moment for scoring purposes, since the alliance between the remaining teams is automatically dissolved. The game should be played out to completion, but points will be awarded only for damage scored up to that point.

CAPTURE THE FLAG

MWC99 Capture the Flag games on the Venice, Badlands and Untamed Lands maps have two squads per team and will be scored as follows:

  • Each team receives one bonus award from the following list for each enemy squad's flag (the largest award for which the team qualifies). Each team receives one award which is based on the combined performance of their two squads; the squads are not given separate awards.
  • 0 points if the enemy flag is never contested.
  • 1 points if the enemy flag is contested by any unit.
  • 3 points if the enemy flag is contested by a force at least 50% as strong as the flag's defenders.
  • 5 points if the enemy flag is contested by a force that is stronger than the flag's defenders.
  • 10 points if the enemy flag is captured.

The maximum score possible in Capture the Flag is 20.

The same guidelines used in 2-start Capture the Flag will be used to determine the relative strength of assault and defending forces.

BALLS ON PARADE

All MWC99 Balls on Parade games will be scored in an identical fashion to the corresponding Capture the Flag game.
