THE CRUCIBLE

THE CRUCIBLE

In previous tournaments, a major problem has been that towards the finals the pace tends to slow down. With fewer games going on, players' interest wanes and the tournament just isn't as much fun. MWC99 is also under time pressure from other sources, so we've decided to try something new. We call it the Crucible.

After the completion of Round Five Top and Round Five Elimination, there will be eight teams remaining. These eight teams will enter the Crucible, which is a rapid-fire series of matches that lead up to the Grand Final. The Crucible begins on Friday evening and ends on Sunday afternoon when a single team walks away with the Myth World Cup.

DAY ONE

On the Friday evening, the four teams who are currently in the Bottom Bracket play Winnowing Round Five. Two of them continue on to Day Two.

DAY TWO

On Saturday, the two remaining Top Bracket teams play a match (Top Round Six). The winning team becomes the Champions, the winners of the Top Bracket. The losing team goes to the Bottom Bracket for Day Three.

Meanwhile, in the morning the Bottom Bracket play Elimination Round Six; the previous night's two winners play the two losers of Top Round Five (played earlier that week).

In the afternoon the two winners of the morning's Bottom Bracket play each other (Winnowing Round Six). The winning team goes on to Day Three; the losing team takes fourth place.

Also in the afternoon, the two losers of the morning's Bottom Bracket play each other for fifth and sixth places.

DAY THREE

All good things come in threes. On Sunday, Day Three of the Crucible, MWC99 comes to its conclusion. In the morning, the last two teams in the Bottom Bracket play each other (Elimination Round Seven). The winning team becomes the Challengers, the winners of the Bottom Bracket. The losing team takes third place.

In the afternoon, the Champions face the Challengers in the Grand Final. One team will hold their heads high and take second place; the other will walk away with the Myth World Cup and over a thousand dollars in prizes.
