"The laws may sometimes sleep, but never die."
Altus Praeses, the old guard, has been around blocks a
few times, and hit a decent number of road signs along the way. While,
AP probably contains one of the highest degrees of skill found in the
myth community, it also contains one of the most colorful histories.
It's been through some hard losses, some even harder member losses, and
a fair (to put it kindly) amount of inactivity. All this has turned it
into a, if somewhat small, closeknit family. But despite its size, AP
has a big reputation (if somewhat 'colorful' too=), due partly to the
degree of skill found in it. Every member in Altus Praeses is at worst
an awesome myth player, something we pride ourselves on. The individual
accomplishments of these guards are proof of those skills, such ones as
Platwars finalist and champion, TBC champion, Nipple quarterfinalist,
7PR semi-finalist, and many various others. Not to take away from the
team accomplishments, though, which include advancing 3 times in the
first MWC, and having the best record (10 wins, 0 losses) in MLM, along
with one of the best in the ancient MA. Though not inherintely a
rank-inhabiting order, our members have had such titles as sun and
comet, and almost all reached the top 100 in their ranking myth 1 days
(yes, admit it, we all were rankwhores in myth 1=).
Altus Praeses has a tradition of excellence, and though lacking the
polish and finesse of some orders, is one of the most capable. Out of
practice, maybe, but certainly not lacking in talent and spirit, and we
intend to prove that in our fight for the Cup.
35 people have bet on Altus Praeses to finish in the top ten teams of MWC99. (average place ranked from 1st - 10th: 6.8)
MWC99 Threat Assessment: The Altus Praeses roster reads like a Who's Who of Myth. It includes both
the Mac and PC champions from Bungie's Platform Wars tournament, and other
names to strike fear into the hearts of their enemies. While their numbers
have thinned from times past, there is enough talent on this team to carry
them all the way to the Grand Final -- if they can work together
successfully. And if they can recover from their long period of inaction.
QR Week 1: AP come out swinging with a respectable-sized team including the long-lost Mundrid (who we, quite frankly, didn't expect to see joining them) and defeat the Manic Depressant Dwarves quite handily, despite a loss in the first game.
QR Week 2: AP field a smaller team this week against GtM and regret it, being handed a loss that obviously smarts more because of who it's from than because of the actual games (see the MWC99 forum).
QR Week 3: AP are able to easily smack down CMD, who field only two players and don't stand a chance.
DE Round 1: Nice coordination (for the most part) allows AP to conquer Semper Regnates with a good deal of ease.
DE Round 2: AP and ea go head-to-head in a match that's categorised by the old aphorism "He who makes the second-last mistake wins" ... well, ea are making most the mistakes and AP are capitalising on some of them. A very, very close score in the end, but enough to send AP through to the next round of the Top Bracket, where they will face BMF.
DE Round 3: Again Altus Praeses play an exceptionally close match... it doesn't look like it at the start, with BMF trouncing AP early on. After a change of host, AP's fortunes improve but they can't quite catch up BMF's early lead. Relegated to the Bottom Bracket.
