"Men of honor. Men of courage. Men of Rohan."
 The Story of MoR
You've been seeing the MoR tag on various versions of Bungie.net
since Bungie decided to release a demo for Myth: The Fallen
lords. While I cannot be sure, MoR (The Men of Rohan) were one of the
first 5 orders to be granted official order status.
Creating an Order
When Gandalf applied to have MoR become an official order, you
needed to have 4 members to qualify. I talked a fellow co-worker named
Doug Freeman to have him become the first recruit. From there (the old
days) people were quite eager to jump into an order. Once MoR was on
the Tome of Orders, the onslaught of emails began. We grew fast and
not necessarily powerful. But the order was official and began to take
off.
MoR makes Myth history
Thought it would be a great idea to host our own tournament and it
was. Although I (Gandlaf) didn't know quite what I was getting myself
into, it went okay. Participation went well and we got to know some
members of DE this way. We didn't win the tournament, but we got
respect from the Myth community. A few months later, I read on
someone's page who was ranking Tournaments that The Men of Rohan
Tournament was ranked #2 overall. That was a nice compliment.
Kicking ass MoR style
MoR regularly kicked ass. While we never had a celestial in our
order, the celestials would never play us. We grew in power and still
in size. We were up to over 50 members. We lost a lot of
cohesion. While other orders were folding up and disbanding, we found
it imperative that MoR must remain the Myth cornerstone it had
become. We decided to pare down our numbers. This was a most difficult
decision. We had just formed the Triad Alliance with DE and e.i. and
now these players were going to be "out" on all this. But it saved
MoR. We cut down to 18 players. It was both a great day and a sad
one. We honor all those who once wore the MoR tag. MoR is a family and
we will always speak your names with honor and dignity.
Bringing it up to date
While we didnt warm to Myth Soulblighter right away, we dig it
now. We remain one of the best orders to ever play Myth. We did some
mapmaking during the Myth TFL days - I (Gandalf) have a huge folder
chock full of editors! Now its easier, yet not everyone should be
making maps. We are at a size right now where we are quite
comfortable. We are growing even stronger and tighter. We are all good
friends. And we kick ass on regular basis. We do not need to brag,
others do it for us.
31 people have bet on Men of Rohan to finish in the top ten teams of MWC99. (average place ranked from 1st - 10th: 6.4)
MWC99 Threat Assessment: The Men of Rohan are one of the few orders that have really become a
part of the fabric of bungie.net. Although the Myth II community has
grown to the point where MoR might be overlooked as 'just another
old-school order', I suspect that nothing could be further from the
truth, and that MoR are preparing to show us just how wrong such an
assessment would be.
QR Week 2: The Men of Rohan show that they've definitely got what it takes, and dominate their match against Vae Victus totally. However they seem unable to counter the brute-force strategies of Evil Empire and are defeated handily.
DE Round 2: Evil Empire vs Men of Rohan was expected to be a grudge-match like no other seen so far in MWC99, what with Rolling Rock's continuous trash talking at every available opportunity. Unfortunately most of his team failed to show up, which turned this match into the biggest anticlimax so far, a MoR victory a foregone conclusion. On to their biggest challenge yet... Round Three versus Civil Order.
DE Round 3: The Men of Rohan fight valiantly, but just can't pin down the ever-shifting forces of Civil Order and eventually seem to give up all hopes of attack, sitting calmly and waiting for death. They move to the Bottom Bracket for Round Four.
DE Round 5: Once again the Men of Rohan face Civil Order on the field of battle. While both sides show some great play at times during the match, Civil dominate most of the games and end up winning the match to eliminate MoR from the tournament. The Men of Rohan take twelfth place, out of ninety-six entrants.
