Newer Technology dropped its G4 processor upgrade card prices yesterday. The company also followed Sonnet by announcing a 450 MHz G4 upgrade for PCI PowerMacs. According to Newer:
Newer Technology announces new high-end MAXpowr G4 upgrades as well as new lower prices on its processor upgrades. The new upgrades use a 450MHz G4 processor and one megabyte of backside cache running on a 225MHz cache bus (2:1 ratio).
New 450MHz upgrades are offered for upgradeable 604 Power Macs including the Power Mac 7300 - 9600, the Power Computing PowerTower Pro and PowerWave as well as the UMAX J700 and S900 series. The MAXpowr G4 ZIF 450MHz upgrades Power Mac G3 systems - both beige and blue & whites as well as Power Mac G4 systems. Both are $849.
Other MAXpowr G4 upgrades, featuring the industry exclusive hardware solution for speculative access management, have new lower pricing. Users can save $100 and $130 respectively on 350MHz and 400MHz G4 upgrades for 604 Macs and $80 on 400MHz G4 upgrades for Power Mac G3 systems (beige and blue & white). FireWire 2 Go PC CardBus adapter for PowerBook G3s has a new lower price of $119 - a $20 reduction.
Other processor upgrade product changes include the discontinuation of the MAXpowr G3 400MHz upgrade for Power Mac G3 systems. The MAXpowr G3 PDS for Power Mac 6100s and 611X Performas will no longer be produced.
