[3:30 PM] Mac Journalists Featured In Technology Magazine, Mac Observer President Quoted
by Staff
We wanted to direct your attention to a great article from a Minnesota publication about online tech journalists. Two Mac folks are featured, and our own Dave Hamilton is quoted. Phil Pearson of Macsurfer's is interviewed, and the irascible Rodney O. Lain is the other Mac pundit. It seems both Phil and Rodney live in the white confines of Minnesota The piece is in The Pioneer Planet.
Regarding Mr. Lain:
If you wander into a certain east-metro computer superstore on a weekend and glance over at the Macintosh section, you may spot a sales staffer with a preacher's panache.
Corey Johnson saw the Mac evangelist one Sunday, "and the guy was preaching," he recalls. Surrounded by a dozen or so customers who listened intently, "He was preaching the gospel of Mac, and he had every Mac fact down. He knew it all."
Regarding Mr. Pearson:
The former Little Falls resident has quietly made a name for himself in Mac circles with MacSurfer's Headline News, a spartan site that does little more than link to dozens of Mac-related news stories, opinion columns and press releases elsewhere.
Not very glamorous, this, but the 5-year-old site does makes money. Pearson says he pulls in a solid $25,000 to $30,000 in advertising revenue every month, more than enough to cover his expenses and to pay himself and his small stable of sub-editors.
"Graphics designers would pick MacSurfer apart," says Dave Hamilton, founder of the Mac Observer online magazine. "But for someone who just wants the day's Mac headlines, it's the best place to go."
Read the article for more information, it's a very enjoyable read and is interesting to boot.
