[3:30 PM] Team Mac Observer Reclaims #19 Ranking In SETI@home, Sign Up Now!
by Staff
We would like to start off by thanking Low End Mac for promoting Team Mac Observer so heavily. Thanks in part to their efforts, we have brought in some 70 new members to the Team during the last week, which helped us to reclaim the #19 spot from Team BeOS! Low End Mac has also begun a permanent section to their site about SETI@home, the rankings, and other Team Mac Observer stuff. If you need some more information on Team Mac Observer or the SETI@home project, read all about it.
Team Business: We have begun tracking the Top 20 most completed units and Top 20 Fastest members because the Team has grown so large. We now have over 50 members who are averaging less than 9 hours per work unit, and you have to be showing up in the mid-7 hour range to make the Top 20. That's fast! Thanks to some new Members with PowerMac G4s, we have 3 people reporting in the 4 and 5 hour range.
We are also welcoming two new Company Members. The Atomic Woman is an Internet design firm who is working on bringing some more machines in under their name (thanks!). Planet 10 Enterprises is a Canadian computer consulting firm that has actually been a Member for some time! Their logos have been added to our Team Mac Observer home page. If you want your company logo to be seen there, just sign up two or more computers with the Team and let us know. We have all the directions you might need. The Atomic Woman and PLanet 10 Enterprises join December 3, TechWorks, Powerlogix, PowerOn Software, Senton Enterprises, and Homewine.com as our other company members! Low End Mac, MacBC, and Applelinks are our Mac site members.
As a Team, we have contributed more than 215 CPU years of time and have completed a phenomenal 123,483 Work Units. That was enough to propel us ahead of the good people in Team BeOS (they are hampered by not being able to use G3s or G4s due to Apple's refusal to cooperate with Be, Inc., so they must rely on Intel processors... which is why their average time is so much slower than ours!). We are only a few thousand work units behind Team Lockergnome (despite the fact that they have 800 more members than we do), a Windows-oriented team that needs to be crushed by our Mac might!
If you want to help show the almost 2 million people who participate in SETI@home how fast the Mac is, then join Team Mac Observer ASAP! We need your help, and we have all the easy instructions for doing it. Thanks to all those who have already joined!
