[6:00 AM] Enhance SimpleText With Toolbars, WYSIWYG Fonts, And Much More
by Staff
A great utility has been updated to be compatible with Mac OS 8 through Mac OS 9. MacEase has announced the release of SimpleText Enhancer 2.0.1. The new version includes the system compatibility. SimpleText Enhancer adds a host of features to Apple's text editor, SimpleText. According to MacEase:
I'm pleased to announce the release of SimpleText Enhancer 2.0.1. SimpleText is a wonderfully easy-to-use program that is included with virtually every Mac. Unfortunately, it has a very limited feature set. SimpleText Enhancer adds both a substantial list of new features and a Tool Bar to SimpleText while maintaining SimpleText's ease of use. In fact, some of the features included with SimpleText Enhancer aren't even available in most word processors and text editors.
As a bonus, a free File Converter Utility is included with SimpleText Enhancer. By simply dragging a ReadMe file onto the converter, users can convert a read-only file into editable text. This enables users to copy, print, or edit any part of a ReadMe document. Users may also use the File Converter to create their own ReadMe files.
NEW IN SIMPLETEXT ENHANCER 2.0.1
SimpleText Enhancer is now compatible with Systems 8, 8.1, 8.5, 8.5.1, 8.6 and 9.0.
REQUIREMENTS
A Macintosh computer with System 7.5.3 or later and a 68020 or later processor.
THE FOLLOWING LIST INCLUDES SOME OF THE FEATURES INCLUDED IN SIMPLETEXT ENHANCER 2.0.1:
With a single Mouse click users can both display all the characters -- including dozens of useful hidden characters -- included with each font on their systems and insert them into documents.
Users can set all four margins when printing from SimpleText.
Users can add a time and/or a date stamp to any SimpleText file.
Users can quickly and easily create a glossary for items used repeatedly in documents as well as items stored for future access. These stored items can be just a few words, a quotation, or several paragraphs -- users can customize the glossary to their needs.
Users can select and insert any one of several pre-configured date formats into their documents with a single Mouse click.
With one click of the Mouse users can easily adjust the point size as well as view all available point sizes.
With a single Mouse click a popup list of all active fonts is displayed in their own typefaces.
The name of the font, the point size, and the style of the text being used are always displayed.
Clicking the Sort button will apply an alphanumeric sort to the selected rows in a document.
SimpleText Enhancer includes a user-configurable Auto-Save utility which can be directly accessed from the Tool Bar's Auto-Save button.
Find, Find Again, and Find and Replace actions may be performed directly from the Tool Bar (requires SimpleText 1.4 or later).
A ReadMe File Converter Utility is included with SimpleText Enhancer.
The P-1 button prints one copy of a document, eliminating the need to navigate either the Print Dialog box or the File menu.
SimpleText Enhancer includes an option to change a text selection to either upper or lower case.
Both Tool Bars include a Windowshade feature and an Iconify feature (this reduces the Tool Bar to a small icon). Also, users may completely hide either Tool Bar.
When using the Tool Bar that is stored in the active window's Title Bar, users may drag it to any location on their Desktops.
The Tool Bar that is displayed along the right side of a window automatically appears alongside the active SimpleText window. If the active window is moved, the Tool Bar will automatically maintain its proper position.
You can find more information and download links at the company's web site. The update is free to registered users, while the full version is priced at US$17.
The Mac Observer Spin: As most veteran Mac users will attest, SimpleText is a great utility. The improvements and features offered by SimpleText Enhancer turn it into a viable word processor.
