[6:00 AM] Casady & Greene Spell Catcher Updated
by Staff

Casady & Greene have bumped the system wide spell checking utility, Spell Catcher, to version 8.1.1. The new version promises better support for AppleScript, along with a number of other minor changes. According to Casady & Greene:

Spell Catcher is a spelling and typing correction application that works with the operating system and allows you to correct spelling, punctuation, and create macros in virtually every application. Spell Catcher works interactively or in batch correction mode, even if your application has its own built-in spell checking feature. The new version is a free update for previous owners of Spell Catcher 8, and offers a number of feature enhancements, bug-fixes, and a new dictionary-converting application, the Spell Catcher Converter. This application can convert user-defined dictionaries into the Spell Catcher 8 format automatically, without the user having to manually reenter special entries.

Spell Catcher 8 v8.1.1 features better performance and enhancements to the user interface as well as to the references. It also conjoins easily with Grammarian 2, Casady & Greene's interactive grammar correction application for the Macintosh.

When both Spell Catcher 8 v8.1.1 and Grammarian 2 are installed in the same system, they now share the same menu. You have the option to use them together (allowing the programs to automatically check grammar, spelling and punctuation at the same time) or separately. This shared menu (and the added bonus of improved contextual menus) provides access to all of Spell Catcher's features as well as letting you switch languages on the fly - a helpful feature in a product which supports 9 languages including US English, UK English, Canadian French, French, German, Italian, Swiss German, Spanish and now, Swedish.

Major changes in Spell Catcher 8.1.1 include:

  • Acceptance of a tab character in the Shorthand Glossary expansion
  • Faster loading of learned words, shorthand glossary and omitted words
  • Additional keyboard shortcuts
  • Enhanced AppleScript support

Spell Catcher is available in electronic format for US$39.95, or in CD format for US$49.95. You can find more information at the Casady & Greene web site.
