[8:30 AM] Apple Continues To Dominate PC Web Sites Rankings, Increasing Lead At #1
by Staff

For the last 5 weeks, The Mac Observer has been tracking Apple's performance in PC Data's Top 10 Hardware Company Web Sites rankings. Apple entered the Top 10 at #8, but for the last 4 weeks has been at the #3 spot, or the #1 spot. For the week ending 2/19/2000, Apple has claimed the #1 spot for the 2nd week in a row, a first for the company. The Top 10 sites have been jockeying for position with all the faces from the last week appearing again this week.

Apple increased the number of unique visitors to their site by 112,000 when compared to the previous week with 961,000 total unique visitors for the week. Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett-PAckard, IBM, and Intel all trail Apple. The rest of the Top 10 are comprised of retailers. Of slight interest is Compaq's standing. Although the manufacturer of the iPaq gained 5,000 unique visitors, they slipped from #2 to #3, as Egghead.com gained some 70,000 unique visitors to barrel ahead claim the #2 spot.

The Mac Observer Spin: To all with lingering doubts, iTools is a success. Apple's traffic has increased dramatically since the introduction of iTools, and if PC Data's information is any indication, iTools is not a one-hit wonder. In the ever-important battle of mind share, this is an important war Apple is waging. Fortunately they are winning this particular battle.

It will be interesting to see what Apple adds to the iTools arsenal next, and how that effects their overall traffic.
