CBS MarketWatch is reporting that Digital Island is about to announce a new deal with Apple computer. Digital Island provides global hosting and content delivery among other things, and recently completed a US$650 million secondary offering on Wall Street. According to CBS MarketWatch, Digital Island has worked out a deal with Apple to include QuickTime Streaming for content delivery. According to CBS MarketWatch:
The deal gives Digital Island another streaming media format to offer its 200 clients. Digital Island currently supports RealNetworks (RNWK) and Microsoft's (MSFT) streaming media formats.
The agreement is an extension of Digital Island's relationship with Apple that began when Digital Island bought production company Live On Line, which uses Apple's streaming format to produce events. Live On Line is based in New York.
Digital Island will benefit in several ways: when clients use the QuickTime format and when Live On Line produces, hosts and distributes events.
