[3:30 PM] Apple #6 Hardware Site (Beats HP, Compaq, & Intel)
by Staff

PC Data released information on the top web sites for the week ending 1/8/99 (last Saturday). Our favorite computer company from Cupertino, Ca. fared quite well in the Top Hardware Sites category. Apple came in at #6 according to PC Data and managed to beat out HP, Compaq, and Intel. Dell and Gateway both beat Apple as the only other manufactures who made the Top 10. The other companies in the Top 10 are retailers. The rankings according to PC Data (the percentages refer to audience share):

Hardware (Audience Share)
1 . bonzi.com 4.40%
2 . gateway.com 1.67%
3 . netzip.com 1.66%
4 . egghead.com 1.57%
5 . dell.com 1.48%
6 . apple.com 1.45%
7 . hp.com 1.29%
8 . compaq.com 1.10%
9 . aria.com 1.04%
10. intel.com 0.79%

The Mac Observer Spin: Apple should continue to fare well in these rankings with the addition of iTools, iCards, and the other new services being offered by the company. This kind of exposure for Apple is key to continued growth. It adds credibility to the company at a time when they still need it.
