Apple has released the somewhat awaited update to QuickTime, version 4.1. The new version not only matches the new abilities in QuickTime Streaming Server, it also brings other new features to the multimedia software. According to Apple:

A gateway for rich media including images, music, MIDI, MP3 and more, QuickTime lets you experience more than 200 kinds of digital media with your Mac or PC and it offers unparalleled quality, ease of use and functionality.
QuickTime 4.1 adds many new features to the power of QuickTime. Some of the new features include:
Support for variable Bit Rate (VBR) MP3 files
AppleScript Support for the QuickTime Player (Mac OS only)
Improved streaming for corporate clients though better HTTP navigation
