[4:30 PM] QuickTime TV Chosen For Super Bowl Webcasts
by Staff

Apple has announced that their online streaming media service, QuickTime TV, has been chosen for a series of Super Bowl related webcasts from Fox Sports. According to Apple:

As anticipation mounts for Sunday's Super Bowl XXXIV, Apple(R) today announced its QuickTime(TM) TV network will be the exclusive provider of Super Bowl webcasts featuring FOX Sports personalities offering expert analysis and commentary.

The 15-minute webcasts, which begin at 3 p.m. EST today and continue daily through Friday, are hosted by FOX Sports Net's Chris Myers and FOX analysts from the "NFL This Morning" show. The FOX Sports team also will conduct a live, half-hour analysis of the game during half-time on Super Bowl Sunday. Macintosh(R) and Windows users can view the webcasts at www.FOXSports.com and www.apple.com/quicktime.

"QuickTime TV is the fastest growing network for live and on-demand streaming audio and video," said Phil Schiller, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Together, the QTV network and the expert FOX Sports analysts create an incredible team for die-hard football fans worldwide."

"QuickTime offers the reliability and scalability needed to bring our Super Bowl coverage to Internet users around the globe," said Danny Greenberg, senior vice president of FOXSports.com. "Our FOXSports.com channel has helped us reach millions of Internet users and now, with this exclusive live event, QuickTime TV is helping us use the Internet to create innovative ways to cover major sporting events."

You can find more information at the QuickTime TV web site.

The Mac Observer Spin: This is quite a score for Apple and QuickTime TV. The Super Bowl is the largest sporting event in the US and these webcasts should bring in plenty of new users for the service.
