[11:00 AM] Mac Only Internet Radio Station To Launch Tonight
by Staff
MacOS Radio, an Internet only, QuickTime based, Mac-centric "radio station" officially begins broadcasting today, July 10th. While MacOS Radio will appear more like a weekly show rather than a radio station for the first few weeks, they plan to increase broadcast time and content. According to MacOS Radio:
MacOS Radio.Net will launch an Internet only, talk radio broadcast station dedicated exclusively to the Macintosh operating system.
Available to any Macintosh or Windows computer connected to the Internet and running Apple's QuickTime 4 software, MacOS Radio will initially broadcast live at www.macosradio.net for one hour per week with plans to expand to three one hour broadcasts per week before the end of the year. Following each broadcast, a "taped" version will be available until the next live broadcast.
MacOS Radio will broadcast to the Internet using only Apple technology to produce its content. Using Apple's advanced MacOS X Server operating system and QuickTime Streaming Server, MacOS Radio will be capable of reaching thousands of listeners simultaneously from its very first broadcast.
Hosted by Duane Burghard, the first broadcast will begin at 6:55 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday, July 10 (a five minute "pre-broadcast warm up" will precede each show) and will feature news and opinions on current events relevant to the MacOS, an interview with Roger Kasten, VP of Strategic Development for Newer Technologies and a call in segment for listeners on the Internet to call in and share their views. Other scheduled guests for the first month include Ryan Meader, CEO of Black Light Media and author of the very popular MacOS Rumors web site and Gretchen Steckel, Marketing Director for QPS. The broadcast will end at approximately 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Additional broadcasts will be made each Monday evening in July at the same time (except July 17, when the live version of the show will be broadcast three hours early to accommodate staff travel to the MacWorld Conference and Expo).
You can tune into the first broadcast just before 7:00 PM EST tonight. You can find more information at the MacOS Radio web site.
The Mac Observer Spin: The Mac Show Live! has proven to be a very popular format for users to get information about the Mac community from a number of the industry's biggest names. MacOS Radio appears to be heading in that direction as well.
