[10:00 AM] PowerBook User Finds AirPort Working In An Airport
by Staff
Our own Dave Hamilton sent us a note from an airport on his PowerBook. Why is this interesting? Because he didn't have a wireless modem service to help. He just fired up AirPort and found his PowerBook configured to a network in the airport! According to Dave:
So here I am, sitting in the Austin airport waiting for our flight (it's been delayed a LOT today), and I whipped out the ol' PowerBook. I was going to mess with some stuff and decided I'd save on batteries if I turned off AirPort. I noticed something new in the list, "Wayport_Access", so I chose it and set my TCP/IP to DHCP. Sure enough. here I am. with 5 out of 5 on the old signal strength meter and everything. Gotta love technology!
If you have any experiences or other knowledge regarding this, please let us know. We may compile a list of AirPort enabled airports if we find enough interest.
The Mac Observer Spin: We think this is pretty cool, and handy to boot.
