[1:00 PM] Mac SETI@home Team Passes 600 Members, Gains On Next Three Top 20 Teams
by Staff

It's been a good two weeks since we last reported on our SETI@home team, Team Mac Observer. While still locked in the #19 spot in the project's Top 20 Club Teams, we have gained considerably on the #18, 17, and 16 teams and should pass the #18 team, Team Lockergnome sometime today. That team contains more than twice as many members as Team Mac Observer, but as they are comprised of members of a Windows news letter, their average work unit takes some 66% longer to complete than does our own Team.

Thanks to the efforts of member Mac sites The Mac Observer, Low End Mac, Applelinks, and MacBC, we have grown to some 617 members, many of those in the last month. Low End Mac has been particularly busy in the recruiting department, and we want to offer a big thanks for that effort!

During the last month, we have consistently turned in more work units than the three teams above us in the rankings. This means that we have been steadily gaining on them almost every day. Team Mac Observer is one of 3 Mac based teams in the Top 20, and one of 5 Mac teams in the Top 100. If you would like to show your support for the Mac in a world wide project of almost 2 million people, then please join our Team or one of the other Mac teams. There are lots of people who follow the progress of their various teams and they definitely notice when a Mac team passes them up as has been all too common throughout the project.

For those keeping score, there have been more than 275,888 CPU years contributed by the participants, a staggering number made possible by the Internet. Team Mac Observer alone has chipped in 257.25 years during the last few months of our participation. A truly staggering global effort all around. Do you want to be a part of this? Join Team Mac Observer now!

Lastly, we have updated our Top 20 Fastest Members and Top 20 Most Completed Units Members. There have been lots of PowerMac G4 owners who have joined up, as all but three of our Top 20 Fastest Members are in the 6 hour or faster range. Way to go!
