Epson Rolls Out Network Ready Mac Printer
Corrected [5:46 PM]
We reported earlier that this printer required a non-Mac server and this is not correct. The Epson Stylus Color 900N includes its own internal server that is configured from a browser. In addition, the USB port will directly support the Mac. Thanks to Byron Sinor for pointing out our mistake!

The good people at Epson have released a new printer for the Mac that includes built-in networking capabilities. The Epson Stylus Color 900N provides fast photo-quaility output (12 ppm black and 10 ppm color) and all the other usual Epson features. While the printer is network ready and will support Mac clients, it does require a non-Mac server. According to Epson:

The EPSON Stylus Color 900N offers business users a standard preinstalled internal 10/100 Mbps Ethernet print server for out-of-the-box LAN connectivity. Because the print server is inside the printer, a separate power supply is not required.

The printer features standard USB, parallel, serial and 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet Print Server interfaces and is compatible with Windows NT, Novell Netware, OS/2, Solaris, Sun, AIX, HP-UX and other Unix platforms, in addition to all popular client platforms, including Windows and Macintosh.

The EPSON Stylus Color 900N is a four-color (CMYK) ink-jet printer that features the fastest print speeds of any networked color ink jet in the world (12 ppm black, 10 ppm color).

Utilizing Epson's award-winning advanced Micro Piezo technology, the printer combines multiple droplet sizes at resolutions as high as 1440 x 720 dpi to deliver superior output at exceptional print speeds. Office users will also appreciate the printer's high durability and low operating cost.

Optimized for demanding business environments, the EPSON Stylus Color 900N features high-capacity ink cartridges designed to handle the extensive print jobs of business users.

As with all Epson ink-jet printers, the EPSON Stylus Color 900N takes advantage of the company's Quick Drying inks, which are instantly dry to the touch and provide the best color and text output. These inks also have excellent waterfastness and smudge resistance.

The EPSON Stylus Color 900N offers several print-driver features advantageous to the business professional, including N-Up functionality that allows users to place up to four document pages or photographs onto one sheet of paper when printing draft copies. Additionally, customers are able to incorporate personalized watermarks such as "draft" or "confidential" into documents.

The Epson Stylus Color 900N is priced at US$649 and is available now.
