First eOne Commercials Hit The Airwaves
Observer Alan Keith Carver sent us a note about seeing an eOne commercial. The eOne is the iMac knockoff being sold by dirt-cheap PC manufacturer eMachines. The Wintel box, OEM'd by Asian firm SOTEC, is being marketed exclusively through Circuit City and includes rebates from CompuServe. According to Alan:

I just saw my first eOne commercial. It was on during the KING 5 late news in Seattle, WA.

There were several different shots, highlighting the mouse, internet button on the keyboard, and basic shape of the box. It ended with a wide shot of the whole system, clearly showing how much it looks like an iMac.

Price was $849, with rebates dropping the price $350.

Thanks for the note Alan!

The Mac Observer Spin: The next phase has begun then. eMachines is the first to market with their rip-off despite the fact that Future Power was the first to announce an iMac-like PC. Apple is, of course, suing Future Power and rumor suggests that Apple will in fact be suing eMachines for trademark infringement. MacCentral reported yesterday that Apple officially had no word on its plans regarding the eMachines or the eOne.

We are certainly living in interesting times, though we hope that this is not the result of the ancient Chinese curse looking to bestow that interestingness upon us.
