Intergraph Ships ExtremeZ-IP For Macs On NT Network
Intergraph Computer Systems has announced that ExtremeZ-IP is now shipping. Announced last month, ExtremeZ-IP offers increased performance for Macs that are on a Windows NT network. In addition, Intergraph says that using ExtremeZ-IP allows small networks to use Windows NT Workstation as a server, rather than the more expensive Windows NT Server. According to Intergraph:

Intergraph Computer Systems today announced that its ExtremeZ-IP networking/interoperability software is available immediately as a standalone product or bundled with Intergraph's line of MacFriendly InterServe servers and TDZ® 2000 ViZual Workstations. ExtremeZ-IP is a high-performance networking product that enables AppleShare®-over-TCP/IP networking capability between Macintosh® and Window NT® machines. With ExtremeZ-IP, publishing and production professionals using Macintosh systems in combination with Windows NT systems can experience highly accelerated response when opening/saving files on Windows NT-based systems. The affordable ExtremeZ-IP is easy to install and uses TCP/IP capabilities to enable users to easily transfer files between remote offices over the Internet. TCP/IP connectivity also allows clients to access Mac volumes from publishing/prepress organizations or between client and production houses. ExtremeZ-IP software works along with the AppleTalk network protocol included with Windows NT, so other software applications can continue to use the underlying AppleTalk protocols without modification.

ExtremeZ-IP is available immediately in both server and workstation versions and makes Windows NT Workstation a viable alternative to Windows NT Server for small Mac-based workgroups. Both products are available exclusively from Intergraph Computer Systems' value-added resellers. Publishing professionals using ExtremeZ-IP will experience Mac-to-Windows NT connectivity that takes advantage of all the throughput capabilities of 100BaseT Ethernet. The results are increased productivity, more efficient use of computing resources, and streamlined workflow throughout the enterprise and across the Internet.

Intergraph's powerful ExtremeZ-IP delivers productivity boosts throughout the production cycle in a variety of ways, including: Accelerated sharing and copying of files over networks - up to 5 times faster than Windows NTS Services for Macintosh. Quick opening of large files from a server in applications such as PhotoShop. Efficient printing to a "hot folder" for RIP jobs, with faster performance for an increased number of RIP tasks.

ExtremeZ-Ip is shipping now. ExtremeZ-IP for the Windows NT Workstation version is priced at US$299. The Windows NT Server version for up to 10 clients is priced at US$999 while an unlimited client version is available for US$1399. The company has information on their Mac friendly product line at their web site.
