French Apple Reseller Declares Bankruptcy
Christophe LaPorte of MacSR News, a Mac news site in France, sent us a note about an Apple reseller in France. International Computer, one of Apple's larger resellers in France, is seeing some financial difficulty and declared bankruptcy. According to MacSR News:

International Computer, l'un des principaux distributeurs Apple en France a demandé sa mise en redressement judiciaire. IC qui s'était orienté, depuis l'an dernier, vers la vente de produits et de services aux PME, a connu un premier semestre difficile avec une baisse signification de son CA comparéà la même période l'année dernière. Alain Drozd, présient d'IC, reste confiant et affirme qu'IC suit la courbe d'Apple avec 18 mois de retard.

For those who may need a translation (courtesy of Michael Munger):

International Computer, one of the major Apple resellers in France, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. IC, which oriented itself toward selling products and services to small business since last year, experienced a difficult first quarter with a serious drop in its market share when compared to the same period last year. Alain Drozd, president of IC, remains confident and says that IC will benefit from Apple's success, but that their business tends to see an 18 month lag in that benefit.

That's not a word for word translation for those keeping score. Thanks to M. LaPorte for sending us the note!

The Mac Observer Spin: France is a good market for Apple and for one of their more successful resellers to be having difficulty is not a good thing. MacSR News is treating the situation as a strongly negative development. Hopefully, this is indicative of problems associated with the change in direction a year ago, and not a softening market in France. We are inclined to go with the former, rather than the latter.
