Apple finally fell below 60 after a week long stay in the 60 range. The markets were nervous about a several things including some worrisome trade deficit data. Those worries claimed a great many victims, including Apple and other tech sector companies. Apple closed at 58 3/4, a loss of 1 3/8 or 2.29%). Volume was moderately heavy with 4,875,300 shares trading hands.
Apple's PC brethren showed mixed results with IBM, Gateway 2000, and Dell all closing down. Compaq and Hewlett-Packard both managed small gains.
The Dow closed at 10963.84, a loss of 27.54, and the Nasdaq closed at 2621.43, a loss of 36.30.
