The stock market rallied in afternoon trading. Apple, which trading mainly in the red throughout the day, also rallied in the afternoon to close higher. Apple closed at 61 3/8, a gain of 1 or 1.66%. Volume was light with 2,635,400 shares trading hands. Today's close marks the first time in 7 years that Apple has closed above the 61 mark, yet another milestone for the company's recovery.
Apple's PC competitors also shared in today's good fortune as IBM, Dell, Compaq, Gateway 2000, Microsoft, and Intel all closed higher. Hewlett-Packard ended the say on a negative note.
The Dow and the Nasdaq both closed higher with the Dow closing at 11326.04, a gain of 42.74, and the Nasdaq closed at 2805.60, a rise of 53.23.
