Farallon Ships AirPort Wireless Solution For PowerBooks
Does the iBook give your PowerBook wireless envy? Farallon has announced they are shipping their SkyLINE Wireless PC Card for PowerBooks (and PC notebooks, but who cares?). The SkyLINE PC Card brings AirPort capabilities to your PowerBook and allows them to operate on the same AirPort base network alongside those new iBooks! According to Farallon:

Farallon Communications, Inc., developer of reliable, plug-and-play networking solutions for Macs and PCs, ships SkyLINE Wireless PC Card for portable computers. Farallon's SkyLINE Wireless PC Card provides both Macintosh PowerBook and PC notebook users access to network resources such as file servers, e-mail, printers and the Internet without wires.

SkyLINE offers Macintosh PowerBook users interoperability with Apple's new iBook and AirPort wireless option. In addition, SkyLINE-equipped computers can connect to a wired Ethernet network through IEEE 802.11 DSSS compatible access points from manufactures such as Nokia, Lucent, Maxtech, Nortel (formerly Bay Networks) and Zoom. SkyLINE users can also create an ad hoc peer-to-peer network between two or more portable computers. A unique Control Panel provides a real-time signal strength meter (Macintosh version), network statistics as well as dynamic configuration, omitting the need to restart.

[Warning: We found Farallon's web site to be running remarkably slow. If you have trouble getting to the SkyLINE page, try again later.

The Mac Observer Spin: This should be a hot product for Farallon. Everyone seems to think that AirPort is cool, and the ability to add current and older models to an AirPort network will be invaluable to many PowerBook owners. Farallon deserves some kudos for being so quick to support AirPort!
