[8:00 AM] Fast New CD-R & CD-RW FireWire Drives Hit Market
by Staff

Fantom Drives has announced two new high-speed FireWire CDRW drives. The new drives offer faster reading and recording speeds, while still taking advantage of the ultrahigh bandwidth capabilities of FireWire. According to Fantom:

Fantom Drives today announced the expansion of its new FireWire(tm) Storage product line with the introduction of two new CD-Recorders. The new FireWire 6x4x24 and 8x4x32 CD-ReWriteable products are the perfect data storage companion to all FireWire - enabled computers from Apple, such as the Power Macintosh G4 and iMac DV.

Addressing the growing needs of today's Home and Small Office users, Fantom Drives' new Ricoh-based 6x4x24 CD-ReWritable recorder builds on the success of Fantom's original 4x4x20 FireWire(tm) recorder. With an increased write speed (150% faster than the 4x4x20) and higher maximum read speed, the 6x4x24 recorder provides an economical and efficient removable data storage solution for G3, G4, or iMac DV users.

Targeted toward graphic designers and users needing a fast and reliable way to get data onto a compact disc, the Fantom Drives 8x4x32 FireWire CD-ReWritable recorder is easily the best in its class. With a topnotch Plextor 8x mechanism at its heart, this new recorder makes efficient use of FireWire(tm)'s bandwidth advantage, recording at speeds impossible for USB recorders to compete with. Able to record a full CD in under 10 minutes, the Fantom Drives 8x4x32 complements the high end features of Apple's G4, but is comfortably at home when connected with any FireWire capable Macintosh.

The new 6x4x24 FireWire CD-ReWritable is available for US$529, while the 8x4x32 FireWire CD-ReWritable is available for US$649. You can find more information at the Fantom Drives web site.
