[7:00 AM] Raid! Fantom Releases New G-Force RAID Solutions
by Staff

Fantom Drives has announced new high-speed RAID solutions. The new RAID systems offer faster reading and recording speeds, and provide cost efficient options for high capacity storage. According to Fantom:

Fantom Drives today expanded the reach of its hardware RAID product family with the introduction of the G-Force RAID LE and G-Force RAID LX. Based on the same hardware RAID technology as the original G-Force RAID UW, these two new products provide identical data protection features in an affordable package ideal for small office users and "creative media" professionals

The two new RAID products achieve their budget friendliness by using readily available low-cost IDE hard drives in place of the high-price SCSI hard disk drives found in the original high-performance G-Force RAID UW. While IDE drives tend to be slower than SCSI when used in single drive configurations, the G-Force RAID LE and LX are able to provide enhanced performance by combining several drives into one RAID array. The innovative RAID controller in the G-Force RAID(tm) then performs translation to allow the entire RAID unit to appear to the host computer as one large SCSI drive.

With their own dedicated hardware controllers, the G-Force RAID LE and LX excel at the traditionally difficult task of handling Level 0, 1, 0+1, 3, or 5 RAID configurations. Designed for small to medium sized applications, the controller in the G-Force RAID(tm) LE uses a standard 486-based processor, while the LX model relies on the brawn of the same RISC-based processor used in the G-Force RAID UW model.

The G-Force Raid LE series starts at US$4,299. You can find more information and a full price list at the Fantom Drives web site.
