[3:30 PM] Plug Analog Or Non-FireWire Devices Into Your FireWire Mac With New Converter
by Staff

Fastware.net has announced a new product called the Video Converter Case that allows users to plug in analog and other legacy devices into their FireWire equipped Macs. The company is accepting pre-orders for the products as well. According to Fasteware.net:

Fastware.net LLC has announced that no-risk pre-orders are being accepted for the company's highly requested Video Converter Case. All pre-orders are fully cancelable and there is no risk.

Fastware.net.'s Video Converter Case (VCC) can be used to plug analog or non-1394 digital camcorders into FireWire-enabled iMacs, G4 or G3 computers from Apple, as well as Sony and Compaq hosts, or virtually any desktop or laptop with an IEEE1394 port. The unit is OS and processor independent. The Fastware.net VCC solves a tough connectivity problem while saving hundreds of dollars.

Both front and back panels of the VCC each sport three composite plugs (one video & two audio), one S-video and one 1394 connector. This makes the converter perfect for bi-directional analog-to-digital conversion and for use with digital camcorders not 1394 enabled. The VCC's embedded firmware auto detects what camcorder has been plugged in. The unit is also hot pluggable. Other applications include video teleconferencing and copying or converting tapes from analog to digital. There is no software to install.

The case is made of a translucent two-tone Grey and White glossy Lexan finish with nonskid feet holding it firmly to desktop or computer top. Rounded edges and corners and the cool color scheme make the case look great when parked next to your iMac, Compaq Presario or iPaq, G3, G4 or a Sony Vaio. A bright blue LED gives the case an eerie glow when powered. Fastware.net's motto is: Connect Cooler!

Composite, S-video and FireWire high quality cables will also be available on the company's e-shop.

The company expects supplies to be limited initially due to heavy demand. Pre-orders guarantee a priority number and a firm place in the queue (customers will not be billed until their order ships). Fastware.net's on-line e-shop will be launched on or about mid-January, 2000. Pricing and availability will be announced along with the e-shop launch. Pre-orders can be converted into credit card orders at that time, keeping the Priority queue slot intact. Pre-Orders may be canceled at no charge at any time.

You can find more information at the company's web site. The company has not actually released pricing information on the product yet.
