MacZone Parent's Mac Sales Outpaced PC Sales
Multiple Zones International, the parent company of MacZone, has announced the results of its 4th quarter as well as the entire year. For the 4th Quarter of 1998, Multiple Zones reported that some 53% of its sales were Mac based sales, up from 51% from the 4th Quarter of 1997. In addition, the company saw its Mac sales increase 19.3% during Q4 while PC sales increased 9.9% during the same quarter. The company attributed the increase to the success of the iMac.

The Full year paints a somewhat different picture with Mac sales seeing a decline of 3.9% for the year while PC sales increased 11.2% for the same period. Combined the company saw both platforms with a slight increase over 1997. According to Multiple Zones:

"Fourth quarter 1998 net sales grew to $146,431,000, a 17.8% increase from net sales of $124,329,000 in the third quarter of 1998 and a 2.0% increase from net sales of $143,502,000 in the fourth quarter of 1997. For the year ended December 31, 1998, net sales increased 2.3% to $501,441,000 from $490,025,000 in the prior year."

Multiple Zones's spokesperson Mary Masters declined to comment on sales for the current quarter citing company policy.

The Mac Observer Spin: MacZone and its parent Multiple Zones have taken being Mac resellers very seriously. This effort has paid off with the results you see in the numbers above. MacZone's Mac sales had plummeted during the first 2 quarters of the year and yet the company came in with guns blazing with the iMac. A 19.3% increase is very impressive indeed, too bad it wasn't enough to pull up the company's over all Mac sales for the year. The Mac Observer prediction is that all of 1999 will see a huge increase for the company with the P1 and MacMate products expected later this year.
