Mac Platform Gains Ground On Solaris In SETI@home As Average Times Get Faster
Since we first ran our story announcing that Sparc Solaris was gaining ground on the MacOS in the SETI@home project (if you would like to read more about SETI@home, check out our About page), the tide has reversed and it is the Mac platform that is now gaining.

Currently, the Sparc Solaris platform has logged in 440,683 completed work units and our favorite platform has turned in 463,703 work units as 1:20 PM CDT. That marks a difference of 23,020, a nice gain on the 15,357 difference reported on June 29th. That difference had been shrinking, so now the Mac is gaining ground! We are now keeping a solid lock on the Number 2 spot.

In addition, the Mac platform averages have been getting faster slipping below the 27 hour mark. The current average is 26 hr 44 min 43.9 sec, a gain of over an hour from three weeks ago! This is due in part to version 1.05 of the Mac client which was pulled by the SETI@home project one day after it was introduced. Those who were able to download the client have reported times as much as 33% faster. A reworked update fixing a bug will be released within the week.

Team Mac Observer News:

We have a couple of announcements for Team Mac Observer. The first is that we are proud to announce that Powerlogix has joined Team Mac Observer and is quickly advancing up the Team ranks! This is a great addition to the Team and we are very excited about their joining. They have consistently had some of the fastest times with their upgrade cards cranking away. Their help is part of our other news for today.

We are proud to announce that Team Mac Observer has joined the Top 50 Club Teams! We are officially number 50 after only three weeks of existence. This is due to the big effort that everyone has put forth. We have 179 members and are growing every day. Our Team average is now poised to break the 20 hour mark with an average of 20 hours 36 minutes per work unit! Well ahead of the Snail like Windows average of over 46 hours, and even faster than the platform average as a whole. When we first launched, our average was over 22 hours. Way to go!

Want to join and help Team Mac Observer kick butt over Windows? We definitely need your help! Check out our Join page and read the simple instructions.

Welcome Powerlogix to the Team and go check out their home page for more information.
