Spell Catcher 8 Adds Truly Global Performance
The good people at Casady & Greene, Inc. released a new version of their system-wide writing tool, Spell Catcher 8. The new version sports a number of new features and other enhancements. According to Casady & Greene:

Taking a more international approach, Spell Catcher(TM) 8, will support eight languages including US English, UK English, French, Canadian French, Swiss German, Italian and Spanish. This new version has a more intuitive interface and a sleeker look.

One of the strongest benefits of Spell Catcher 8 is it's new Look Up window, which provides Definitions, Pronunciations and Thesaurus entries. This new feature will even speak the word for you for English or Spanish languages using Apple's Text to Speech technology. Apple's Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations, Clent Richardson commented, "The comprehensive reference sources in Spell Catcher 8 make this one of the most powerful proofing tools available to anyone who writes on a Mac." Additional references included in the product are, medical, legal, scientific/technical, computer, biological/geological, HTML and more!

Spell Catcher built its reputation on the fact that it is a global tool, which could work in any program the User chooses. In this new version, the User no longer has to select the programs in which it will work. Spell Catcher 8 is automatically available in every program and is now a full-fledged application.

One of the most useful of Spell Catcher 8's features may prove to be one that has been a standard through all of it's versions the Personal Glossary expansions dictionary. This feature allows the user to create custom shorthand, (such as "vty" which is automatically expanded to very truly yours). The glossary can include carriage returns, punctuation and tab formatting, thus making salutations and routine repetition a breeze.

Another new feature is the Modify Selection of text. This includes 18 modules such as the ability to change multiple spaces to single spaces, tabs to spaces, or capitalize sentences. These modules can be combined to create your own macros.

You can find more information on Spell Catcher 8 at the company's web site. The product is priced at US$49.95. Registered users can upgrade for US$19.95.

The Mac Observer Spin: Put your sunglasses on when you visit the Spell Catcher site. It's, shall we say, bright. It's also a great product, so go check it out.
