Commercial MP3 Encode/Player Released By Casady & Greene
Casady & Greene has announced the release of SoundJam MP, their MP3 player/encoder program for the Macintosh. SoundJam MP is the first commercial release of an MP3 Mac player/encoder. According to Casady & Greene:

SoundJam MP will allow you to encode your favorite music quickly into high quality MP3 files turning your computer into a stereo component. SoundJam MP handles a variety of formats including MP3, CDs, AIFF, WAV and QuickTime. SoundJam MP compresses your music collection to a fraction of its size while maintaining near CD quality.

SoundJam MP also allows you to:

  • Play QuickTime music files as well as those in MP3 format
  • Access the internet to stream music in real time without waiting for downloads
  • Access the internet in order to catalog the music files you are compressing by artist, track, song & music style
  • Create custom playlists of your favorite music
  • Choose from a variety of colorful skins (on-screen look), so that you can have a new player face everyday.

SoundJam MP includes visual plug-ins which can create colorful displays pulsating in sync with the music one is playing. Included also is a 10 Band Graphic Equalizer that allows you to control the quality and tone of your music manually or by using preset music styles such as Jazz, Rock, Latin, Classical and more. This permits you to create the sound and look that reflects your personality or the type of music you are listening to.

It was recently announced that SoundJam MP will be the Macintosh solution for RioPort, Inc's, Rio 500. The Rio 500 is the latest in RioPort, Inc's line of portable digital audio players, and the first to support the Macintosh platform. The Rio 500 is expected to be available for the Macintosh in August 99.

The product is currently available as an electronic download through most on-line resellers and from C&G's web site for the introductory price of $39.95. The retail box version will be sold at mail order and retail chains for approximately $49.95. It will contain a collection of over 100 MP3 songs and a six-foot stereo cable which will allow one to turn a computer into a great stereo component. SoundJam MP then becomes a "jukebox" with the ability to store and play hundreds of songs.

You can find more information about the product at the company's web site.
