MACWORLD Expo: From The Floor - Eyes-On Unreal Tournament
by Kyle D'Addario
MacSoft is demonstrating and taking pre-orders for the upcoming release, Unreal Tournament. Unreal Tournament is the follow-up release of the mega-hit, Unreal. Following along the same lines as Quake III Arena, Tournament is based around a "deathmatch" type scenario in which a team of humans has to evade aliens, work together, and capture the prize. The game is geared toward multiplayer mode, but MacSoft representatives said that it is very playable in single player mode as well.

Tournament is being demonstrated at Macworld on a stock Blue and White G3/400 with 128MB of RAM, and is steadily showing frame rates of 50-70 frames/second. As far as looks and playability goes, Unreal Tournament is stunning. Many of the people checking out the demo were very impressed and this game will no doubt be a big hit.

There are a slew of new weapons, with one being the Sniper Rifle. This weapon is similar to the rifle in the original Unreal, with the difference being a zoom scope allowing one to zoom in on a player at almost unimaginable distances. The fun factor for this weapon is very high. :-)

MacSoft expects Unreal Tournament to ship in September for the suggested list price of $49.99.
