Pinacor Tips A Hat: Apple Named Supplier Of The Year
Apple Computer was named Pinacor's Supplier of the Year today in an announcement from Pinacor. According to Pinacor:

"Pinacor's unique logo uses five icons to represent the company's guiding core values of growth, innovation, relationship, decisive, and global. According to Pinacor, Apple Computer, Inc., best represented all five of these core values in its interactions with Pinacor and Pinacor's network of 25,000 resellers, VARs, dealers, and integrators throughout 1998. Apple's Supplier of the Year Award reflects a commitment from the supplier to Pinacor, and more importantly to the reseller channel. Apple has worked closely with Pinacor to plan and execute successful product launches, leveraging Pinacor's distribution and logistics expertise. In addition, Apple sales at Pinacor grew 109 percent year over year in 1998."

Pinacor is one of two national distributors in the United States who are allowed to distribute to retailers (Ingram Micro is the other). Pinacor is a relatively new partner with Apple having been named as a distributor in 1997 after Apple cleaned house.

The Mac Observer Spin: Apple's relationship with retailers and the channel had been notoriously poor for years. When Steve Jobs took over the post of iCEO in 1997 and promptly terminated retail agreements with retailers such as Best Buy and others that were not giving customers a good Mac experience, all distributors except Ingram Micro also got the ax. Apple then named Pinacor as a second national distributor. Pinacor has since striven to be a good Mac citizen by increasing their Apple related sales force and adding more Mac manufacturers as suppliers.
