Input Sprocket Helps Observer Gloat Over Windows User
An Observer named Glen wrote in to tell us about the goodness of Input Sprockets.

I don't know if you know this or not, but the latest version of Apple's Input Sprockets include the drivers for all of Microsoft's USB joysticks and gamepads. This is quite cool. It is a huge coup when a fellow employee is braggin' about their new joystick they got at the company store and I just plug it right into my iMac and it works without installing drivers and other whatnot. 8) I currently use the SideWinder Precision Pro and it works great in all apps that support the input sprockets. So basically any USB capable mac can by default use the PC-Windoze only Microsoft joysticks and gamepads. This includes the Freestyle Pro that senses the position that the joystick is in and acts accordingly.

Again, I didn't know if you were aware of this or not, but I think it's pretty cool.

We know Glen, but your letter offers a great excuse to remind everyone. Thanks Glen!

Input Sprockets are the game oriented technology developed by Apple to assist game developers tap into input devices easily. Today, with the power of USB, Input Sprockets can be used to make any USB input device work on a USB equipped Power Mac. The drivers still have to be written, but being distributed with Input Sprockets allows Mac users to just plug and go.
