Apple Teams With Lara Croft For OS 8.5 Promotion
Apple Computer has announced a promotional offer for MacOS 8.5 that offers buyers a free copy of Tomb Raider II or Tomb Raider Gold. According to Apple:

Apple Computer, Inc. today announced a worldwide promotion offering a free copy of Tomb Raider II or Tomb Raider Gold with the purchase of Mac OS 8.5 from now through April 30, 1999. The two Tomb Raider titles are among the industry's most popular games and Mac OS 8.5 is Apple's most recent release of the Macintosh operating system, and one of Apple's most successful software releases ever.

"We've shipped almost three million copies of Mac OS 8.5 and we'd like to give every Mac owner the incentive to upgrade to it," said Phil Schiller, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Tomb Raider II and Tomb Raider Gold are great games and will give our customers one more reason to upgrade to this 'must-have' operating system release."

Mac OS 8.5 can be purchased from Apple Authorized Resellers and The Apple Store for the estimated retail price of US $99. A redemption coupon offers customers worldwide the option of a free copy of Tomb Raider II or Tomb Raider Gold, starring virtual celebrity Lara Croft.

The Mac Observer Spin: Cool idea! The popularity of Tomb Raider should certainly help sell more copies of MacOS 8.5, but the bundling agreement will be great for Eidos and Aspyr Media and Mac gaming in general. The promotion itself will bring gaming to consumer minds and hopefully they will pick up some additional games while they are at it. In the meanwhile, Eidos and Aspyr will directly benefit by having potentially hundreds of thousands of their games bundled with MacOS 8.5. Everyone wins.
