Epson Shows 5-Color Support For Apple & iMac
Epson has introduced a new flavor of their popular 740 printer. The new model is dubbed the 740i and comes in 5 colors. More importantly, those colors happen to be blueberry, grape, lime, tangerine or strawberry! The perfect printing companion for an iMac near you!

Epson also voiced lots of support for Apple in their press release. According to Epson:

Introducing a colorful new addition to its award-winning line of ink jet printers, Epson America Inc. Monday announced the EPSON Stylus(R) Color 740i -- the industry's first color ink jet printer designed to color coordinate with Apple's iMac and Power Macintosh G3 computers.

The EPSON Stylus Color 740i comes housed in a sleek, new translucent case, similar to that of Apple's iMac and Power Macintosh G3 computers, and comes standard with a blueberry cover. Additionally, consumers can outfit their printers with optional covers in grape, lime, tangerine or strawberry.

Epson has been a long-time supporter of the Apple computer market, offering Macintosh users an extensive line of award-winning imaging products. The introduction of the EPSON Stylus Color 740i is just another example of Epson's continual commitment to Apple's growth in the computer industry.

"This printer not only matches the unique look and feel of an iMac or Power Macintosh G3, but it delivers superior color performance in terms of both print quality and speed. I guess you could say that the EPSON Stylus Color 740i truly makes a colorful case for being your iMac printer," said Rajeev Mishra, product manager, consumer ink jet solutions, Epson.

"The iMac combines the excitement of the Internet with the ease of use of Macintosh, and it has done so in five dazzling colors," said David Moody, Apple's senior director of desktop product marketing. "The Epson team has matched the new Stylus Color 740i with iMac's five flavors to make surfing the Web and printing in beautiful color more fun than ever."

EPSON Stylus Color 740i Colorful Features

Based on the award-winning technology of the EPSON Stylus Color 740 -- winner of Macworld's Eddy Award and MacAddict's Freakin' Awesome Award -- the EPSON Stylus Color 740i features the company's advanced Micro Piezo technology, a six-picoliter droplet size, outstanding 1440 x 720 dpi resolution and native Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectivity.

The result is richer, deeper and more detailed images as well as laser-sharp black text at fast print speeds -- six pages per minute (ppm) in black and five ppm in color.

While ideal for iMac and Power Macintosh G3 users with its built-in USB connectivity, the versatile EPSON Stylus Color 740i also offers Mac serial and parallel ports. With this capability, users have full support not only for the new flavorful Apple models, but for legacy equipment they may own as well.

The EPSON Stylus Color 740i includes a full-featured software bundle, including Polaroid PhotoMAX Pro, ArcSoft PhotoPrinter and PhotoBase, and a one-year subscription to PhotoLoft.com, a photo sharing Web site.

Additionally, users can choose two software programs from an impressive variety of categories, ranging from graphics and design, such as Kai's Power Soap and Print Shop Deluxe, to business utilities such as Lotus Organizer and Print Shop PressWriter, to best selling games, such as Warcraft II, Shanghai's Dynasty, and many more.

This feature-packed printer is backed by the EPSON Overnight Exchange one-year warranty and EPSON Connection service hotline.

The Epson 740i will be shipping in a couple of weeks in "mid-May" according to Epson. The unit will be prices at US$279. The color plates can be purchased for an additional US$14.95 per color.

The Mac Observer Spin: Epson seems keen on earning Mac users' business. That's a good thing. The Epson 740i is the second product line and the first major piece of equipment that is offered in different colors to match the iMac (please note that Contour Design's multi-colored USB mice were the first products to do this). This is a major commitment from Epson to offer an entire product line aimed at only one computer.

We bet that there may be some PC customers who may buy them too. Nice work Epson!
