Apple Ups Reported Y2K Fix Expense
Reuters is reporting that Apple has increased the amount of money they are spending on Y2K fixes throughout the company. According to the report, Apple upped the amount of money going out for Y2K issues by US$4 million, bringing the total for all Y2K issues up to US$13.2 million. Of that money, US$6.4 million has already been spent while another US$6.8 million is expected to spent.

The Mac Observer Spin: US$13.2 million is not really all that much money for this problem. Other computer companies are spending far more, though Gateway 2000 is also incurring a rather small expense as well of "US$14 million to US$16 million" in estimated expenses. Check Gateway 2000's SEC filings to see for yourself. Microsoft has an entire web section devoted to Y2K issues, but we were unable to check it at press time because their site is down (checked from two different providers). Perhaps Microsoft was performaing a Y2K readiness test on their NT servers... [Editor's Note To Microsoft Attorneys: Just kidding! :-)]

Apple makes it plain that anyone in their supply or distribution chain could affect their entire operation if they themselves are not Y2K compliant, but it looks as if Apple may be Y2OK.
